Meeting between Chemi, Italfarmaco and ICGEB

On November 27, 2024, Dr. Claudio Ernesto Mario Manzati, CEO of Lean Institute Italia Srl, ICGEB consultant since 2020, organized a meeting between Dr. Gianmario Baccalini - President of Chemi Spa, Eng. Jacopo Bellarosa, Site Manager of Italfarmaco Italia Spa, together with Dr. Paola Annoni, Head of the Polypeptide Unit of Chemi, and Dr. Natasa Skoko, Head of the BDU (Biotechnology Development Unit) of the ICGEB (International Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology) of Trieste, an international society founded in 1987 by the United Nations and supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting should examine the possibility of ICGEB providing know-how and support in the development of polypeptides and biosimilars of interest to Chemi-Italfarmaco.

After signing a confidentiality agreement between the parties, the participants met for a second in-depth meeting to begin the collaboration.

It should be remembered that the ICGEB's statutes provide technical and scientific support to 64 developing countries designated by the UN, in addition, of course, to Italy, where the Institute is based. Over the years it has developed clones optimized for the production of interferon alpha, 2 A and beta, as well as pegylated, pegylated and non-pegylated, insulin, long-acting insulins, growth hormone, erythropoietin and trastuzumab.
