CTU and CTP: What are the differences and why are they important?

CTU and CTP: two acronyms that often cause confusion, but which play a fundamental role in judicial proceedings . In this post, we will clarify these two professional figures, highlighting their differences and importance .

CTU and CTP Milan services

CTU : the Official Technical Consultant is an expert appointed directly by the Judge. Its role is to provide the judge with a technical opinion on specific issues that require knowledge in a specific field (medicine, engineering, economics, etc.). The CTU is impartial and works in the interests of due process.

CTP : the Party Technical Consultant is instead appointed by the procedural party (plaintiff, defendant, etc.). His task is to assist the party during the process, providing technical support and evaluating the conclusions of the expert witness. The CTP may be a professional other than the CTU and has the right to contest the conclusions of the CTU himself.

Why are they important?

Both the CTU and the CTP play a role of primary importance within a judicial proceeding. Their technical skills help the judge to understand complex issues and formulate a fair and impartial decision.
